To The Younger Generation From Us Oldies

You see us on our zimmer frames and walking sticks and moaning alot and we know what your thinking . Silly old farts why dont you just die already you have past your usefullness . You laugh and take the mickey with your friends and find it totally hillarious to laugh at us and make us the butt of your jokes .
However just remember one day that is gonna be you because it happens to us all . We dont want to be old anymore than you not wanting to get old and be like us decrepid old farts .We know were old and theres not a dam thing we can do about it .
However you can , you can make that old persons day by just being a bit charitable and reminding yourself that one day that could be you . Just greet them politely and give them a smile thats all I ask their reaction might surprise you .
You all have grandparents and parents and how would you feel if youngsters were disrespecting them just for laughs .
If you see them sat on a bench on their own or in a cafe having a lonely cup of coffee go and say hello , take time out your day to stop and ask them about their day , make them feel they matter and put a smile on their face , you never know you might make a friend . If you have elderly neighbours who might be struggling go and knock on their door or put a note through their door offering to help , the simplest of gestures and their reaction could surprise you .
All I am asking is show a bit of human kindness to those less able than yourselves and the infirm and disabled , their reaction might surprise you and maybe even change your life or just make a friend .
If you gave enough time to read this in full then thankyou . If just one young person puts this in practice then I have achieved something so thankyou again .
Do you think any of those whipper snappers read this? It’s a lot of text….
@Rhode57 maybe I’m just in a mood but I have no faith in anyone to care about anyone other than themselves anymore. But I get the sentiment. I hope you have people around you that are good to you.

@nonsensiclesnail Nope thats why I wrote it only my kids and grankids .
@Rhode57 ehh, same but I never really think about it that way. But when people are nice to me I always wonder what they want. And they always want something. Because of this, the youth are far more cautious and careful. But I do miss kindness.

I realized I was growing old too. And fast.
We all are. @rrraksamam

Very well said!

Young people who seem to think they are immortal are perhaps secretly afraid that they too will one day be propped up with walking sticks and taking enough tablets to rattle if they jump up and down (if they can still jump and down).

'Twas ever thus, I imagine.... Same when we were Spring Chickens, same when our grand-sprogs have their own grand-sprogs.

The Passage of Time? Yes, the Bus-pass Age. I think I could become quite used to being retired, having had about 6 years' practice so far: but by and large most youngsters are at least reasonably polite and considerate most of the time.
I was never mean to old people. That's not my nature.

@Spoiledbrat I am not saying you all are I was trying to point out that a bit of human kindness could make their day .
I know what you meant. I was just saying. @Rhode57

Since I was a small child I've never really made fun of the elderly. Always been respectful. It's just how I was raised. Also I have a soft spot for them along with children. Like even if they're being disrespectful I can let it go. If we are destined to live long enough we will all get there one day.
