I Want to Make a Difference In the World

We have all sat around with friends and family and discussed what we feel are the major issues in the world. This might be poverty, environment, health or injustices in the world for example.

It's very easy to sit around and 'put the world to rights' but then feel it's impossible to make a meaningful difference because we're just one person or the problem would need so much money spent on it we couldn't possibly make that meaningful difference.

Two quotes stick with me when I find myself feeling despair at what I could possibly do to make a positive change in the world. One is from Ghandi and the other from Michael Jacksons song man in the mirror.

Ghandi said: Whatever we do in life will be insignificant but it's really important that we do it, because no one else will.

In Jacksons song he says: I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
(If you wanna make the world a better place)
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
(Take a look at yourself, and then make a change)

According to google in 2016 the U.K. Population was 65.64million.

These quotes and fact about U.K. says to me we can make a difference and change something if we do our own small part for something we believe in.

Next time you sit with friends and family and discuss the issues facing the world take a moment to discuss what actions you could take to make a small step towards making a change. If you can afford a lot of time or money that is amazing if you can't and only a small amount of time or money is practical that is just as amazing and important.

Today I'm asking you to be the difference you want to see in the world

I'll try, but I have a two and a half year old...

@Happytohelp77 I know you can do something, it's important that you take care of your family first and not take on something impractical or too costly for your current circumstances stances.

What's important to you that you'd like to see changed in the world? Something that you want better for your child?

@Pjt2017 is like something to be done about paedophiles.
It's a horrible thought that society seems to think that it's ok for a 45 year old man to sleep alone with a 12 year old boy in his bed. Makes me very worried for my child's future that this is the world we live in.

@Happytohelp77 A very worthwhile cause and I can understand how that's important to you as a new farther, I'm sure you are now and will be a brilliant farther.

For me the first thing I would do is teach my child about stranger danger and about internet safety. If it is practical and affordable I would volunteer or donate to children charities that work to protect and help children.

I know that there has been a movement of paedophile hunting online. I get why people do this I really do. My fear is that if people look too deep to catch paedophiles this can damage evidence that the police can use. Far better to have a concern and report it.

I'll simply be teaching my child that no matter how rich or famous you are, or whether you've had a difficult childhood yourself, it is not ok for a man in his 40's to sleep alone with young boys in his bed.

That's the kind of small change I was thinking about. Have a great day :) @Happytohelp77
