humble and inspirational leaders
There was this man who was next in line to be the community leader, he was familiar with all of the activities of the existing leader, and the expectations he would need to fulfill as the successor, everything but this secret of a daily morning visit to a small house....
He was intrigued by the current leaders daily morning visits to a small house just on the outskirts of the town. He would spend hours in that small house and then only return to his own home.
His curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to enter this small house after the leader had left.
When he entered this little house, he found an old woman who could not move and had no one, and she was also blind.
He wanted to know what is the secret of leader's relationship with this blind old woman, so he asked her: "What does this man do here in your house?" (meaning the current leader)
The old woman answered: "I do not know. This man comes every morning and cleans and sweeps the house for me. Then he prepares food for me, and he leaves without talking to me."
---------------------------------------------------
Fast forward to some time later, where the existing leader had passed on, and the man was his successor.
As the successor, he decided to continue the good charitable work that the former leader was doing. Furthermore, he thought that he too would not talk to her when he is cleaning the house or preparing her food, so that she may think it's the same unknown man that had always been serving her.
One day, as he he completed the task and was about to leave her house, she spoke up and asked him: "Did your friend die?"
He said: "How did you know?"
She said: "You brought me dates, and you did not remove the seeds from them."
He crouched on his knees and his eyes filled with tears and proclaimed:
'Your successors are tired from your precedence' (referring to the former leader's lofty example that was difficult to follow)
---------------------------------------------------
This is not just some story, these were the humble and non-boastful leaders of our past.
Should we feel sad that we've lost such great leaders, or should we feel sad that such esteemed morals and good conduct no longer exist...
