All of my boys and I got together for a day out. We shopped. We ate lunch together. And we visited the riverfront that I brought them to when they were little, the same place my dad brought me to on random Sunday mornings he woke up wanting to take a drive. Actually don’t think we had all been there together since those days when life seemed so much more simpler…easy. They’re 24, 21, and 18 now, but as they skipped rocks at the edge of the water I saw them as the little guys that filled my heart with so much love and filled my life with so much purpose. It added to the beauty of the moment we all carved out for ourselves.
The day ended with two sunshines on our backs as we made the journey back home…
…where we had some long heart-to-hearts about the struggles we have faced the past few years, as well as the tests we can see on the horizon. There was even a moment when while sitting at the kitchen table two of them wrapped their arms around my shoulders as the other held my hand across the table. In that moment of weakness I felt invincible. It was…the word simply doesn’t exist. What a day though. …one of my favorite days ever and it was all because of them.
