The gap between theory and application in the trades is one of the biggest issues that no one is doing anything to fix. I see it all the time too.
You just cannot learn how to build shit by writing on paper in a classroom. Cant be done. These engineers should be required to get field experience as a mechanic/technician/whatever the hands-on people in their field is called.
