Physics. While being tumbled, garments rub against each other. As they do this, the garnets will "pull" on each other, , turning it's "neighbor" wrong-side-out. This can happen multiple times throughout the cycle. When the cycle ends, some garments may be left in the "inside-out" position (although most won't).
