Can we cook good from first time?

I wanted to make beef and brown rice.
It turned very bad.
The meat is hard to chew it it's like chewing threads off of it.. did not like it at all.
The rice was still hard although left it in some water for 20 minutes and it tasted hard and raw.
I threw it outside i feel guilty for the waste.
I feel like i am not meant for cooking.

@waleskinder: or if it's a risotto you can fry the onion first - but risotto is tricky for beginners as it requires patience!

Did you try a recipe book? It's really helpful when you start. Get creative after you master the basics
I usually wash (white) rice in cold water then boil hard for 5-7 mins then put it in a sieve above the pan & steam for another 15-20. Brown rice takes longer.
Mince beef - fry diced onion till transparent add the meat & brown, you need some extra moisture so stock or stock cube in water, tin tomatoes, tobasco, worcestershire sauce, whatever u like. I often add HP sauce myself ;)
Herbs / spices help the flavour. don't just cook till brown gently simmer extra water off till tender moist & tasty.

It takes practice, don't give up. I think you might need a mentor to help you a bit learning a few basic dishes and then you can add whatever seasonings or whatever you like.

It helps to boil the rice for twenty minutes and yes cooking gets easier over time
