how do i get my husband to be organized?

we rent our spare bedrooms and part of the basement to other people and he just doesn't see the point of putting stuff away in a timely manner or putting anything back in its place most of the time. he would rather throw all the junk in a box, put it downstairs and forget about it. Out of sight, out of mind -

These boxes have since accumulated and iiiiiiii am the one cleaning them out now.... there's prob 70 boxes of papers, junk and stuff that doesn't even BELONG in a box (like old takeout food??? ) i've tried talking about it but he just gets defensive....

If he hasn't used it in a while, then it's probably best you dispose of it. Ask him if he wants it... If he says yes, then tell him to help himself. Give him 3 days... After that just throw away the remaining stuff. That ways you won't feel guilty.

currently he is supposed to sort through piles i've set up in the garage : technical stuff, books/magazines, misc stuff, and papers. see how that goes ....

im just worried it will keep happening .... even when this junk is gone
Boy! Magazines is one thing even I have a difficult time throwing away! Esp. Ones like Readers Digest... I can imagine it must be quite a task for him.
I get ya! Why don't you buy one of those garden cupboards and keep them in the garage. And give him racks to keep this things. That ways when he wants to add to his pile, it will be neat and organized next time! :)
@HumblleJumblle: it will
