Why do people buy appliances that they know are going to let them down?

I’ve been repairing appliances since 2013 and I see this pattern that I can’t wrap my head around. People will go off on a tangent about how terrible their LG refrigerator or Samsung washing machine has been and how Home Depot and/or Lowe’s were the worst stores to buy from and then they waltz their happy ass right back into Home Depot or Lowe’s and buy the exact same appliance again but a couple years newer as if this time it’s going to be different.

I really shouldn’t complain because those people are the reason I’ve done well for myself over the years but I guess the neurotic section of my brain really wants to make sense of this nonsense.

Even Maytag is not as good as it used to be. You have to look for the mechanical models without the fancy circuit boards and junk.

You want the shit that will last 50 to 80 years
