I keep repairing mine it gets used hard. Both he washer and dryer. Got them used this last time. Maytag washer and magic chef dryer

Ontheroad · M
Remember the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid). It very much applies to washers and dryers you find today. The repair rate on any of them priced at $3k (for the pair) and above is high. Front loaders especially.

Front loaders do use a lot less water.

So, whatever you decide to buy don't get one that does the laundry, steams, cooks dinner, mops floors and is a "smart" machine.. Keep it simple. Get one that has the basic wash and dry functions and leave it at that.

All the bells and whistles add complexity to the build, more boards to go bad and much higher repair costs.

@Musicman nope and that was a mistake. I'm forever missing wet clothes in the washer.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Ontheroad We are definitely not getting any younger. Bending over and leaning in is not as easy as when we were 20.
Ontheroad · M
@Musicman ain't it the truth!😂

I prefer top load and any brand except Samsung.

I had Samsung fridge & dishwasher and they were awful - so is their customer service
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Jenny1234 I am sorry to hear that ☹
TexChik · F
I used front loaders and stack the dryers on top. Saves a lot of room
Musicman · 61-69, M
@TexChik Yes they do!

Top load washers are less expensive but the front load washers are supposed to be a lot better cleaning clothes and don’t use as much water, you can put more clothes in them too. I have a top load. They were having problems with a moldy smell inside of the front loaders.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Ours does. ☹
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Musicman The laundromats have front loader washers that don’t take very long to run and they do a good job.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti That is what I am told. 🙂
NeddyKelly · M
Front loader, recently purchased one for around $650 delivered, installed and took away the old washing machine
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NeddyKelly What brand was it? How do you like it?
Bosch, have never been disappointed with any of their appliances
lissah · 36-40, F
LG front loader
Musicman · 61-69, M
@lissah I talked to our appliance repair guy and asked him what I should be looking at. The first thing he said was LG front loader.
GunFinger · F
Front loader LG, Samsung or Westinghouse. We're due for a new washing machine and a new dryer.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@GunFinger I looked at a front loading LG today. Do you really like them?

GunFinger · F
@Musicman we have a 12kg LG washing machine and works well for us.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
I like the top load ones. Just plop it all in and go. Gravity helps you.

I bought the Whirlpool 2in1 top load washer and the matching dryer. You can take the agitator out when doing blankets and then put it back and do your clothes. If you want a front load, just use a five gallon bucket and a stick. Same cleaning for a lot less money 🤣

Seriously though stick with top loaders that have an agitator, they clean the best and now you can get them with removable agitators for like $1,200 installed.

Now if you really want performance, get an ozone generator for the washer. I got one and have not purchased any soap, bleach or detergents ever since. It’s totally worth it
Musicman · 61-69, M
@PenguinPuncher33 Thank you. I did see the removable agitators. There are just so many choices. It's confusing.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@PenguinPuncher33 My new washer has a removable agitator. Really good for blankets and other bulky items.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Maytag top loader automatic. No setting required. I've had two Samsungs quit draining half empty and one had the worst spin cycle. Clothes were heavy and still soaked going to the dryer.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Gibbon I am sorry to hear that ☹ How is the Maytag holding up for you?
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Musicman it's been great. I don't set anything it even does a spin and reverse spin before it starts to size up the load. It sets it's own water level also. It has a water wand for hand spotting and a glass cover for observing. I just get sad sometimes using it because Vickie never got to go to the basement to see or use it before she passed. She really disliked the Samsung because of the lousy spin down.

I have a Bosch Series 6 10kg
onewithshoes · 26-30, F
Front loader so top surface is useful.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@onewithshoes Any suggestion on a brand?
onewithshoes · 26-30, F
@Musicman Nope, just planning to look for one when our old top loader dies.😄
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
The old industrial ones instead of this smart wifi and shitty technology. bunch of limited lasting crap. No matter the price. They all suck now days.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti How do you like it? Would you buy another one next time?
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Musicman I don’t know. We’ll see how long this one lasts. I think most appliances have been engineered to break down and need to be replaced in a much shorter time than the older machines. The old Kenmores were really good. My ex’s mother had 8 children and doing laundry for 10 in that household those machines held up really good. She bragged on them and she didn’t brag on much, lol.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Our current one is a Samsung. We bought it new 10 years ago.
Cigarguys · 41-45, C
Top loader, the front loader ones always seem to have issues
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Cigarguys Is there s brand you like?
Really prefer front loaders for their style, features, and space efficiency.
That's my 1st choice.

But, their maintenance cycles and overall durability can suffer, depending on the make/model.

Traditionally top loaders had the most capacity, and would run forever. Unsure if that's still the case.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SethGreene531 I bought a new front loader today. It will be delivered on Wednesday.
@Musicman That's exciting!
Congrats on the new purchase.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SethGreene531 Thank you very much 🙂
Front loader, more efficient and no spindle to shred chothes
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 That is what all the professionals say too.
