no. there are free legal aid offices or advocacy group who can help you with these sort of things and can email landlords as documentation is important. you can also bring this up to the local housing authorities.

No, a landlord cannot unilaterally change the rent due date without proper notice and your agreement, especially mid lease. If your lease specifies a due date say 1st of the month, the landlord must honor that term. Any change requires either:

A written amendment to the lease signed by both parties, or
Proper notice according to state law if you're on a month-to-month tenancy (typically 30 days in most states).

Demanding earlier payment without such notice violates the terms of the agreement and may constitute a breach of contract by the landlord.

A reimbursement is really what I'm hoping for. Nowhere in the lease does it say the landlord can change the agreement.

1. Check Your Lease (The Paperwork)
First thing you gotta do is dig out that piece of paper you signed. If it says rent is due on the 1st, it’s due on the 1st. Unless you signed somethin' that says they can move the date around (which is rare and usually illegal anyway), they gotta stick to the agreement.

2. Know Your Rights
Landlords usually can’t just demand cash early because they’re short on their own bills.
Notice Periods: Most places require at least 30 days' notice for any major changes to a month-to-month agreement.
Harassment: If they’re harrassin' you for the dough before it’s actually due, that could be considered a violation of your "quiet enjoyment" of the property.

3. Get It in Writing
If they’re callin' you or knockin' on your door demandin' the rent, stop 'em right there. Tell 'em, "Hey, put it in an email or a letter." You want a paper trail. If they’re tryin' to pull a fast one, they usually don't want to leave evidence.

Step Action Why it matters
Verify Look at the "Due Date" section of your lease. It's your legal shield.
Respond Send a polite but firm note: "Per our lease, rent is due on [Date]." Sets a boundary immediately.
Document Keep a log of every time they ask for it early. Useful if this ends up in housing court.
