I found a mouse in my bathtub this morning

Living in the woods, you become aware once it turns cold that you are probably sharing your home with the fauna of the area. Since my son had raked up the leaves on the deck, I'm sure this little one felt the house was safer.

I'm sure they didn't know about the cats.

Luckily, this one had gone unseen by both of them and had found a safe space in the tub, but was also trapped. It was lucky I saw it first.

I grabbed a quart jar and went back into the bathroom. It scurried around only for a moment before it stopped, sat up on its hind legs to survey the jar lid I was holding to block it, then ran right into the jar.

A real trusting and smart thing it was.

I told it that I understood that the house was nice and warm compared to outside but it wasn't safe and that it was lucky I had seen it.

Then I took it outside and laid the jar down. As it left the jar, it gave a few squeeks, as if in thanks, then ran off.

I'm pretty sure I just saved a faery this morning.

That's nice of you to catch and release.
I'm not sure if I would do the same.

@Teslin I always do when I can. It isn't their fault my house is built on their land

@FoxyGoddess Good point.

That’s very Nobel of you we share this earth with our fellow creatures. Such actions will bring you blessings.

Sweet story.

You certainly don't want rodents in your home, but at least you let this one live!
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@ArishMell I live in the mountains surrounded by forest. It's impossible to keep them out, but the cats are a deterrent. If I find them, I release them. It's not their fault they were seeking warmth.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@FoxyGoddess No, it isn't. I live in a moderately suburban area but still see mice in my garden occasionally.

I don't mind them there but don't want them indoors, even if it would be cosy for them, because they are unhygienic creatures with no bladders. They can't help their anatomy, but they not always nice mice!

This could have been a perfect protein for the breakfast, only if you were in Asia!

I can`t stand rodents in my house. That bathtub would be getting bleached or burned.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Degbeme You would not need go that far! Just normal cleanser would be sufficient. Bleach would be all right only if it does not damage the surface.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@ArishMell I have ocd which doesn`t help
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Degbeme I can understand that, as one of my nephews has similar.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Lilnonames I once saw a slightly similar photograph to your first, though of only one mouse in a trap, taped to the skirting-board of a communal kitchen where the animal had been killed; with the caption in capital letters:

"MICE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!"
