Marine toilet in our house...
I installed a marine toilet in our boat.. this one updated in design with a macerator waste pump and it uses in our case pressurized lake water to flush the bowl.via a solenoid valve.... its VERY quiet, 12 volt DC and its important on the boat because it uses very little water to flush the bowl - typically a litre or less... So the tank does not fill up quickly...
So I decided to install the same toilet in our ensuite.. Because it was not tall enough it needed a base constructed and the solenoid valve (and check valve) uses potable water to flush the bowl.. two switches one wet, one dry gives total control over water consumption... discharge is to the existing sewer line with a fitting I machined in plastic to make it tight...
I use a small 12 volt lithium battery to run it and the solenoid.. It needs to be charged every two months or so...
It is NOT an inexpensive choice but it makes a noticeable dent in water consumption.. Our water bill is half for the two of us compared to what my Mother uses alone.. A year later.. I can tell you its a hit..
And the fun part is it makes me miss the boat a bit less in the off season...
