Landord raised the rent

He gave me the notice yesterday it will increase by $85 starting May 1st. I tried negoting with him because I lost my job recently and I can only afford to pay the original price which is $865 he told me he can't promise me anything but will talk to the rental company I'm so worried I feel like he's lying about the rent increase these are greedy people from L.A who only care about money I'm a young single mom I can't afford the new price he then tells me that he it'll be increasing to $95 the following year like, wtf are you serious? The landlord we had before them never increased our rent but these L.A aholes want to. I live in a low income neighborhood and he wants to increase my rent wtf.

The problem is prices for everything are going up.
Property taxes increase, so does your rent.
No matter how you see it, It all trickles down to the consumer.
@Adrift It works how ever we want it to.

@Spoiledbrat Ok whatever. I guess you got it all figured out then.
@Adrift Your average consumer can't afford it but company owners can.

Do you get support from the dad? Maybe he can help with some of that. What social programs do you have there for a single parent to reach out to. When you barely live paycheque to paycheque any increase is daunting. Hopefully they bring it down a little bit for you.

@Jeephikelove I have no support from him I'm scheduled to see him in court this month because he refuses to pay child support. Hopefully, the rental company can work something out for now.

@Pinkglitter what a deadbeat! He needs to help support his kid. 😡

Anything under $1000 is unheard of these days. Here you can’t get a cardboard box for 1k much less a house or apartment..
I think you should reconnect with family, move home and save your money so you can buy your own property. Otherwise you're always going to be at the will of property owners. Most of them want as much as they can possibly get for the property and don't care about you personally. Most of them figure if you won't or can't pay it, someone else will. They want to drive the market up because it's how they make money.

bidenflation
Minimum wage increases cause inflation.

Annual rent increases are common. Especially nowadays with inflation rising tremendously.
@Ravens80 My landlord said they wouldn't raise the rent for 15 years.
They hire rental companyies to do their dirty work.
I'd find a cheaper place to rent.

Does your government not set a maximum increase each year? My rent went up $20 for 2023.

Not to sound rude, but at your age shouldn’t be renting should be owning
