So I close on the house tomorrow

I thought I'd be more attached to it. been in the family since it was built. 60plus years old and needs a ton of work done to it.

glad to be done with it - especially since we're still in hurricane season (even if it looks like we are done with it - you can't ever be realy sure).

buh bye house

Best of luck to you

@MarineBob I've been in an apartment for about 3 months - and while it's quite a bit more expensive - I love kknowing that if a storm comes or there's a fire - the landlord has to deal with it and I'm outta here.

I'll probably go condo in a a middle class area that's popular (for the time being) and then the rent will stop.

it was nice to be part of that "I'm asking X" and then get people in a bidding war - and getting well over asking.

@Pretzel make sure you use all the proceeds fron the sale to avoid capital gains tax

@MarineBob my understanding is that since I have been in the house more than 3 years there is no tax - is that not correct?

the little bit I've read said that a profit of 250k or less for a single payer and 500k for a joint payer is exempt

gotta google some more for sure

@Pretzel may want to check with a real estate attorney .should be a free question asked to the states legal aid

@MarineBob good idea. closing is at an attorney's office - might see if I can get a freebie :)

@Pretzel Attorney's office or title company. You're paying some so ask away.
