It's a sense of achievement. When you do household chores and finish them you feel good looking at your house and you're proud of it. What your whole life looks reflects on how you treat your house. Even your car.

But I don't think they reflect our whole lives. Depends on one's way of life I suppose.
A house could be loud and messy and full of warmth and laughter because family and friends stay there to bond. Or it could be quiet and clean bec. it rarely gets visitors and the people inside rarely see each other at all.
A car could be untidy because the mother is always using it for chores and sending kids to school.
A car could be clean because the husband is going to date behind her back.
It depends.
I wouldn't say you're wrong. Maybe what you said is true for some people. Just that from where I see it, even a house and car are just parts of a life.
