Fridge has frozen some of the contents

Can anyone help with a problem I am having? I am home on my own and have no-one else to ask 😅

I have just got some milk from the fridge and it has partly frozen. I also have some yogurts and a piece of salmon in there which have also frozen.

I haven't made any adjustment to it at all (there is a dial that goes from 1-5 and it' always been set at 3)
Is it broken? Why would this suddenly happen?

Yes reset the temp to a warmer setting . Is 1 coldest or is 5? move food to different areas where things are not freezing and check the doors for air leaks...especially top and bottom

Turn it down to 2. If it still freezes food----give it overnight----turn it down to 1.

@anythingoes477 I'll do that and check on it tomorrow
@annamk Until then..........move the things you don't want frozen to a higher shelf. Cold air settles.....so it's colder near the bottom of the fridge.
your vent in the fridge is locked up by ice inside where you can not see it. defrost and run a fan in that area . it worked for mine. good luck and put your setting back where they was before ya had the problem.

@markansas Interesting, thanks
@annamk air goes from the top to the bottom when it is frozen open . the bottom freezes also. common problem .

Something similar to what you described happened to my fridge. The problem was solved when I pulled the fridge out a little farther from the wall. @markansas

As mentioned the condensor coils probably need cleaning, or you might even need to defrost your freezer. My last fridge the cold air coming into the freezer was blocked by frost, so more freezing air got pushed into the fridge, freezing things like you see.

Also you might need to get a long thing brush, like for cleaning dryers, to really get gunk out of the condenser. I really had to get into mine and I needed that thin brush to get between all the coils. The problem is thats not just dust, its dust plus grease from cooking in the kitchen and atleast for me, the vacuum couldn't quite grab it all.

Most times it needs a good cleaning

@MarineBob 😬 This is probably true and the likely cause 😅 Thanks

@annamk shop vacs are a must for the homeowner
@annamk use a vacuum cleaner with a hose with a dusting brush to clean the back condenser grill .

Your freezer part may be too cold because the door wasn’t shut properly. This happens to my fridge and the food on the top shelf freezes. I have to make sure freezer door is closed. It sometimes seems closed but is not.

Logical-nothing is wrong with your appliance. The more groceries you put in, the more efficient it becomes.
Turn it down a bit until it suits you.

@eyeno oh this also makes sense, there is not much in there by the end of the week.
Did you put that stuff on the shelf closest to the freezer? Top shelf here freezes stuff
BigBulge · 41-45, M
Gee; maybe you could dial it back so that it's not getting as cold.

Weather change and Sat too long in back of fridge

@Lilnonames It has turned colder in the last couple of days, but it never happened at all during the whole winter.

And I have stored salmon in the same place before and it's been ok 🤷‍♀️
