Do you answer the door for uninvited guests?
If I wasn't expecting you or didn't invite you to 'stop by if you're in the neighborhood', you will be out there ringing the doorbell because I will ignore it.

If people don't do the courtesy of calling first, I might not know they stopped by, especially if I have the TV on or music playing.
Jehosaphat's Witnesses used to be on my doorstep all the time. I know because I used to find flyers wedged in the storm door. Covid restrictions put an end to that.
