I used to. But I've been living outside the UK for 35 years. I go back to visit family and enjoy being a tourist.

Where do you live now? @ninalanyon
ninalanyon61-69, T
@Claire2k Norway, about 50 km south of Oslo.

@Claire2k So how did you end up in Australia?

That鈥檚 pretty cool - haven鈥檛 heard of too many Brits living in that part of the world!! @ninalanyon

@Claire2k There are about 12 thousand of us in Norway.

Oh really!? I never imagined there鈥檇 be that many. I know it鈥檚 a lovely place but I thought the Brits would struggle with the language? @ninalanyon

@Claire2k Norwegian is really easy. Lots of similar words or at least words with some common etymology, even more if you speak German. Very simple grammar, fewer tenses than English, no complicated case structure (not like German).

But it takes years to learn it because Norwegians speak such good English, at least in the areas around Oslo. For a poor, and lazy, language student like me it was difficult especially as I worked in an export oriented company where English was heavily used. It wasn't until I visited more outlying areas that I really had to use Norwegian because the people around me were as poor at English as I was in Norwegian; if I wanted a beer or a pizza I had to ask in Norwegian, that really gives you an incentive to get over your shyness!

That鈥檚 a great insight :) it was dead easy for me being in Australia!! @ninalanyon
