definitely she can
what does that even mean? To be a "man"....boys need to be taught to be human beings...fair, equal, compassionate, independent, respectful, non-violent, non-sexist human beings, to do dishes, his own laundry, change diapers, wear pink shirts if he wants to,...not simply a "man" which will separate him from other people...make him superior on some level...teach him to evolve...the world will be a much better place

i know plenty of men who are true gentleman who were raised by a mother and no father figure. people really do spout some bullshit.
WeighedDown · 41-45, M
@Pineapple yea, I care more about romance than sex, I'm a straight man who thinks like a woman, that is not as beneficial as you would think
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@WeighedDown You’ll find someone who fits you. Some women think more like men... it’ll all even out 🤗
WeighedDown · 41-45, M
@Fallflower that's it that who I go for the problem is women who think like men are likely to cheat
I’d suspect there are some things a boy will pick up from other men but there is no reason you can’t raise him to be a proper man
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
A mother can teach her son to be honorable and to respect others. And if he can become that, he is better than most.
SteelHands · 70-79, M
Putting false words into my mouth is proof of female thinking.
If a man does it , that's dishonorable.
Like I said. Don't even pretend that I don't say EXACTLY what I mean.

@SteelHands A woman may not be able to fist fight but you might wanna look at all the women who are in our military.
I’m certain being a male doesn’t automatically qualify you an as an honorable man. And neither does having a bullet scar.

A mother can’t teach a boy how to be a man. Send him to a boxing club or martial arts school
YouCanCallMeDan · 41-45, M
What if men need to provide and protect to be at their best? What if women need to support men and mother children to be at their best? What if that is the way it’s supposed to be?
What if men become more like women and women become more like men and as a result of that society collapses? That’s where we are heading. Marriages are failing and suicides are increasing.
Taking away men’s masculinity isn’t the solution

bijouxbroussard · F
@YouCanCallMeDan But by whose definition is one gender’s subordination (simply by virtue of their gender) being “at their best” ? If that were so, so many women wouldn’t have been fighting those roles for so long. Now, for some women, “kinder, kirsche, kuche” only will be acceptable. But others will want more. And we know we can have it. Even the oppression in the Middle East is slowly evolving.
If marriages are failing, it’s because women feel free to leave unhappy or abusive ones, which wasn’t always the case. If some men feel suicidal because women want to be treated like people, that says more about those men, than about women.

YouCanCallMeDan · 41-45, M
Some women have been fighting for a society without traditional gender roles because they want more power for women. They don’t care about destroying families. They don’t care about children not having two parents. They don’t care about marriages failing. It’s all about empowering women at any cost.
I don’t see any point in discussing this any further. Have a nice day 🙂

Many good men have been raised by their mothers with little or no help from the fathers.
acpguy · C
Depends on how you define a man. However, whether they are boys or girls, I think getting them outdoors and doing things like hiking, biking, fishing, hunting (if you can or finding a mentored hunting program); teaching them things like bird / plant identification (helps you too with a guide book) is all good as it gives them a better basis for learning other things. All this helps with getting productive conversations going.
I and my wife raised five boys and one girl doing all this stuff together (yes my wife hunted and fished with us also, but I could never get her to touch a snake or lizard). All five grew up working hard, all paid their own way through college and now have families of their own doing the same things.

@acpguy very cool. Thanks.

You can help by having high standards of conduct and being consistent. There are some things that it's good to have a male role model to emulate, but that doesn't have to be dad. It can come from teacher, coach, or some other authority figure.
Of course you can. Good parents don’t require a certain gender. But there probably will be specific situations or questions he will have that should require the guidance of a trusted man or father figure.
Fallflower · 46-50, F

I think there are some things far easier for a man to teach a boy. and I think there are a good number of things that women wouldn't necessarily think to teach/tell a boy about, but I'm not sure any of those things are on a make or break requirement list for manhood.
bijouxbroussard · F
A parent can teach their child to be an honorable person regardless of gender. But there might be specific questions he has growing up better answered by a man you trust.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@bijouxbroussard of course! I never said I wanted to do it all on my own.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Fallflower I wasn’t implying that at all.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@bijouxbroussard ok cool. I just wanted to make that clear 🙂
sciguy18 · M
As long as you can teach him to be well-adjusted and happy, you have done your job - regardless of gender...
SteelHands · 70-79, M
Let me think. Would a boy that grows up.to be ab adult male get called a nan. (Correction man)
Yes. I believe that he would still be called a man.
Would he know what it's like to observe a husband and father live his daily life? Or will he simply assume female life is identical, or nearly so, to the life of his divorced, estranged, distanced and in some cases, absentee father.
This is a difficult one.
I don't even know what to say. Other than that many men have had only cousins, brothers, uncles or other mentors to help them become very good men. Some not.
You probably shouldn't be too worried about it. I'm sure he'll survive. It's what men do.

You can teach him honesty, perseverance, kindness, and compassion - just like a father would. Using those building blocks to become a man is his job - not yours, not his fathers.

@VeronicaPrincess well said.

a mother can do a lot to raise him up to be a man, correctly.... but without a doubt, having a father and a mother is the best situation.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@SW-User it’s funny that you (and others) respond that both parents are ideal. My question is not asking if you think a mother can do it alone. It very clearly does not ask that. And yet so many people have read it that way.

SW-User
@Fallflower No... I didn't read it that way... but others I know, want it answered without that aspect, so I put in my two cents worth... sorry.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@SW-User Who are these others that you speak of 🤨 OK it’s all good. Thank you
A good mother can teach her son to be anything. Women can buck as well as any man can. I've been taught that quite clearly in my life. Problem is, good men and women are getting more scarce with each passing day. This whole "bay momma" and "baby daddy" thing is testimony to that. Dead beat dads and absentee moms are far too common, and the whole LBJ welfare system encourages the destruction of a people. We need social safety nets, but the democrats were doing the 'democrat' thing when they came up with the 'war on poverty'. They managed to bamboozle a lot of people./
WeighedDown · 41-45, M

Fallflower · 46-50, F
@WeighedDown I believe they need both too. That’s why I continue to deal with his shit for brains dad!!!

@Fallflower my son's mom is in jail, even though I never had a dad, I'm doing a damn good job being one
Fallflower · 46-50, F

some women I know, know more about what it is to be a man , then some of the men I know.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@SW-User Yeah some women are pretty darn smart

SW-User
@Fallflower naturally. some are more intuitive than others. I'm not sure there's a man alive though, that fully knows what it means to be a woman.;)
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@SW-User Well I sometimes think about if I had to please a woman I wouldn’t have any clue. So I do give guy some credit for even attempting it :-)

SW-User
Just a well rounded parent, matter which sex (but mothers are more involved in there kids lifestyle, than a man would be,generally speaking)

Best thing a mother can do for her son is to teach him how to love and treat a woman and let him know the difference between a some tramp and a real woman.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
I want him to treat all women well. I know he will. @HeartlessGentleman
bijouxbroussard · F
@HeartlessGentleman In other words, judge women as “good” or “bad”. Who needs a man like that ? 🙄
Anopenheart · 56-60, M
Give him a shovel. Hammer. A pile of scrap lumber. A pile of dirt. And a garden hose. He will learn to be a man. Oh. And lots of firecrackers

Being a man isn't taught. If he has a dick, he's a man. EZ PZ.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User That just mean he’s a male.
@SW-User I appreciate your conservatism, but you are quite confused from my perspective. You don't think manspreading is rude, and you don't seem to appreciate that women are just as capable as men in most areas if not more so,

SW-User
@puck61 I don't think manspreading is rude because it doesn't exist.
I never said women are less capable just that a dude is a dude and gal is a gal. It's basic biology yanno.
