I live by:
If it can be cleaned, clean it, don't replace it.
If it can be repaired, repair it, don't replace it.
If there's a new model/version out but the existing still suits your purposes, keep it, don't replace it.

Unless it's new Year - we don't have much choice there, so have a Happy New Year, one and all.
