Wooden floors or carpet?

Do you prefer wooden floors or carpets?
I have a mixture.
The entrance is very large and has wooden floors. I live in the country and its very muddy. It would be impossible to keep carpets clean if the entrance was carpet.
The bedrooms, sitting rooms, and stairways are have plush light carpets. I do like carpets as they look opulent and are so comfy underfoot and warm.
Obviously shoes are taken off at the door. I have a bench there so everyone can easily remove them.
My office has wooden floors.
My house is open plan style with mezzanine style areas that are wooden floors.
The hard floors are absolutely freezing from around October to April, and uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet.
Wooden floors can be deadly in bare feet.
In a perfect world I'd have carpets throughout. It's not as perfect world.

@RippinKlouds absolutely. Carpet looks so smart and lovely. It feels homely and welcoming.
I couldn't live in a house with wooden floors throughout.
I hate carpeting.

@LvChris you are lucky to be somewhere warm all year.
It never stops raining here amd will be cold now until well into next year. Carpet makes the place warmer and cuts down on fuel bills.

@LvChris I know quite a few people who don't allow bare feet on their floors because of the oils problem. My partners family are trained to change into slippers as soon they get in. She has carpets throughout.
At my place the kids don't run around the wooden floors in socks. It's bare feet or slippers.
