Can anyone advise me about what kind of food processor I should get?

I'm a home canner with pickle season coming up soon. I've gotten arthritic over the years, and now I have a tough time slicing many lbs. of cucumbers for my pickles..

I would like to buy an automatic electric slicer of some kind.

I checked out the Veggiebullet, and I like its spiraling features, but when it slices, it doesn't adjust to different thicknesses of slices.

My ideal processor would do spiraling, and ribbons as well as slices but would adjust for different thicknesses of slices.

Any good brands? Has anyone tried any of them for use in home canning?

I pickle and use a Kenwood for slicing and spiralising. You have to change the blade to get different thicknesses, though.

@GlassDog: Is that Kenwood Food Processor or does the model have a name?

@greenmountaingal: I went for an FPM910 because it does absolutely everything. Expensive, though. The trick with Kenwoods is the buy the cheapest model that does everything you need it to do. They have a huge range.

@GlassDog: Thanks! I'll be checking it out.

@greenmountaingal: The only thing I'd say is that you need to apply force to push whatever vegetable you're pickling through the feeder tube. For most things, it's quite easy, and you can hopefully use the flat of your hand to press it through with one of the tools. I'm guessing the arthritis is affecting your fingers more?

@GlassDog: The last time I sliced 10 lbs. of cukes, my thumb ached for months.

@greenmountaingal: I know this is going to sound weird, but have you thought about one of those electric carving knives some people use for meat?

@GlassDog: Yes, that's occurred to me...but I want the slices even; I'm trying to take my canning to the next level, you might say. Also, it's hard to hold a big carving knife steady to cut the slices.
