I PAY for my tool closet

I got a notice from the leasing office last week that maintenance would be doing their quarterly air conditioner inspection and switch the filter, but they also mentioned that they’d be replacing the doorknob with a lock/deadbolt. I found that a bit strange, but I just kind of shrugged it off.

Today they came and did all that…but much more than that. They pulled all of my personal belongings out of the closet. My toolbox, my vacuum cleaner, all of my car maintenance equipment, and more. Then they replaced the knob with the lock—but I assumed I could just unlock it with my regular front door key. Nope! I tried unlocking, and the key doesn’t fit. I called the leasing office, and they said only the maintenance team has the key. So nope. I just have to live here with all this junk by my desk. There is nothing else to use as my tool closet. My regular clothing closet is full of clothes and the floor is cluttered with my laundry basket and my seasonal decorations. Then there’s the tiny laundry closet with my washer and dryer—both of which fill up every square inch of said closet.

When I complained to the leasing office, they were basically just like “tough, you must have a small unit.” Well yeah. It’s small, but it USED to be just right for a single guy like me. But rent goes up, yet I get LESS space to use. I pay for that closet. I pay for my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and yes, my small tool closet. But who cares, right? Clearly they don’t.

The only place I can think to put this is out on my balcony. Hopefully the rain won’t ruin the vacuum cleaner.
