I was always taught asking for gifts is rude.
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@iamonfire696 asking for a gift is not rude unless you have an attitude about it
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave it is actually, it’s presumptuous.
Shayama · FVIP
@iamonfire696 in a way yes.
Yet I'm doing it for the fun of it
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Shayama I have taught my children to not ask for gifts and to be thankful for any gift received.
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@iamonfire696 You can ask for a gift if you deserve it, trust me, now if you are demanding a gift when you did nothing for that person then it is rude
originnone · 61-69, M
@iamonfire696 I'm really starting to like you....
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave it’s rude. Where do you come from?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@originnone Well thank you. I hold doors open for people and put away my shopping carts. Just little things that people have stopped doing.
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@iamonfire696 Asking fora gift is not rude, it is only rude if you are entitled, for example, is it rude asking for a gift on your birthday?
originnone · 61-69, M
@Cosmicmicrowave yeah....it is....
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@originnone Not really you missing my point it is only rude if you don't deserve a gift and you demand it, asking and demanding a gift are two different things. For example, you ask your family very politely may I please have a gift for my birthday. you can't be rude if you ask politely which is what I have been trying to say asking nicely for a gift is not rude. how can asking nicely for a gift be rude?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave Yes it’s rude, you sound entitled. Clearly your parents didn’t teach you right.

You don’t deserve a gift just because it’s your birthday. Not everyone can afford to buy gifts, I can see your entitlement shining through.

Did you also get upset when you received a gift that you did not want? Be thankful and grateful for what you do receive.
originnone · 61-69, M
@Cosmicmicrowave maybe depends on how you ask then....
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@iamonfire696 I have never asked for a gift in my life, I was adopted but before that, I was tormented by my parentsl I was taken away from them, HOW DARE YOU ASSUME I AM ENTILETED WHEN I NEVER ASKED FOR ANY GIFT EVER
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave Again, just because it’s your birthday doesn’t mean you deserve a gift.

People give gifts because they want too, they can financially afford too or they make something to give as a gift.

Just because you believe you deserve a gift on your birthday doesn’t mean it’s okay to ask for gifts.

Gifts should be given in kind. Not because you are asking for them.
originnone · 61-69, M
@iamonfire696 I guess it's also good to be gracious when you get a gift and don't want it....I try to do that, but it's hard.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave What’s the point of all of this then? I grew up poor and didn’t always get gifts at every occasion. Sometimes I got a beating instead.

Asking for gifts is rude. That’s my opinion and it’s etiquette that is taught. You won’t change my opinion of it.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@originnone Yes it’s important to be gracious too. I have taught my kids to be thankful for what they get.

My great aunt gave me me the ugliest blouse when I was a teenager but I thanked her for it and the effort she went into getting it.
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
@iamonfire696 Guess what I went through was hell, I was abused for no reason other than my grandparents did not like my parents, and guess what my parents abused me too, I was put in 14 different foster homes do you know what that can do to someone? I
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Cosmicmicrowave I am sorry you went through that, I get it. I was sexually abused but it was by a close family friend.

You presented your opinion which seemed entitled, which is my opinion. Do you know how to talk to people on the internet without breaking down? You might want to learn to do that so you don’t get so upset when someone has a differing view point.

My opinion and what is taught by etiquette is that it is in fact rude to ask for gifts.

Your opinion is that it’s not.

I am not going to change your mind and you won’t change mind.

Enjoy your Easter 🐰
Cosmicmicrowave · 18-21, M
yeah maybe we are both right to an degree
