If read the actual article cherokeepatti and not the headlines it states it is a tag. Similar to a Samsung Tag that I put on my FIL key ring.

In the article cherokeepatti the mom and daughter shook everything out and didn't find the tag but after they left the daughter tracked it as being in the parking spot they left. So obviously it had fell under the car and left behind
