I will have a traditional Christmas dinner next Saturday evening, organised by my village pub - turkey, pork and chestnut stuffing, baked ham, Brussels sprouts, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, cranberry and port sauce, gravy. Have I missed anything? Then trifle, Christmas pudding with brandy butter.

I expect I will eat a very little of each!

Christmas and Boxing days, I am planning to be alone. I won't prepare a large meal just for myself. I will have a buffet of seafood and charcuterie, cheeses, with crudités, olives, dips.

I will slowly pick my way through that while reading or diving into a box set of some sort.

We have spaghetti. It was a tradition started by my husband’s grandmother. But this year we’re doing something different. I’ll make the spaghetti on Monday, but the youngest is going to make a feast including ham on Christmas Day.
@PerfectionOfTheHeart that is sweet you giving the reigns to the youngest

Usually turkey or a game bird (with all the trimmings). This year, however, there's only 3 of us so I'm cooking a venison, port and cranberry casserole - with the usual: roast potatoes and parsnips, pigs-in-blankets, Yorkshire pudding, brussel sprouts, mashed carrot & swede (turnip).......
@ArtieKat that sounds amazing! and so when should i come there to eat? i love venison....

@LILY61 I won't be here! I'll be at my friend Hannah's

If possible, chicken and all the usual trimmings ('pigs in blankets': mini sausages wrapped in bacon, stuffing, parsnips, roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts), gravy, cranberry sauce and bread sauce.
@amethyst1 sounds yummy

We had duck last year. Haven't decided what to have this year yet.
@Lugwho i always found duck to be too rubbery except when stir fried . how do you cook it?
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@LILY61 I roasted it, only time I've ever cooked a whole duck. It went down well and I don't remember it being rubbery.
@Lugwho i never cooked one myself...only ate it at restaurants

@lissah sounds good

vegetarianized roast dinner
@Hireath what's in that?
Hireath · 36-40, M
@LILY61 So I have all the usual stuff; roast potatoes, yorkshires, stuffing, gravy but the meat part is just vegetarian substitutes. So plant based pigs in blankets, and plant based turkey, we are having this year.
@Hireath what is plant based pig and plant based turkey?
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Small bowl of cold gruel.
@hunkalove didn't you have the same thing for thanksgiving?
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@LILY61 Yes, but with potato skins instead of pine needles.
@Shybutwilling2bfriends i will most likely do the same
