Technically, all holidays are a day of observance, not a celebration, so one does not have believe that the Christ child that was born was a god, but can observe the holiday just the same without any religious beliefs.

I find that hard to believe since the modern day depiction of Santa was created some time in thd 1800s.

There is no missing link, Neanderthals and Homosapians began to bread together and ghe Neanderthal gene was suppressed naturally by the stronger Homosapian gene. The Neanderthal gene is still strong in a small sector of society.
