Several flaws to that theory. Unless the kids are clueless, they would recognize the lack of contents burning in the fireplace. Also the box and wrapping paper will clog the chimney plume a lot faster due to the chemicals used in the manufacturing process of these materials. The smoke alone will be very thick and toxic.
