@RodneyTrotter1 How awesome! How long will your trip be for? Will you post pictures for us. 🙂
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman Planning five days, hiking the coast and finding places to camp, an adventure. I'll do my best with the photos 😊👍
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Are you going alone? It sounds wonderful 🙂
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman With a friend for three days, alone for the rest but I don't mind doing these things alone 😎
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Good deal. How many times a year do you go camping?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman I used to go at least once a month including winter but narrowed it down now to better weather, probably eight or nine trips and 15-20 camps per year, all wild camps.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Very nice. Do you backpack or how do you do it?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman Always backpack, map and compass, it's how we were meant to be, or so i believe.
Camping shouldn't be confined to noisy campsites, it's much better in the middle of nowhere with just animals for background noise

@RodneyTrotter1 I enjoyed doing that in my younger days. These days I am a whimp and enjoy the comforts of our RV.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman I wouldn't say no to an RV sometimes but love the adrenaline after doing it on foot
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Foot is nice. As we age being able do backpack is a good deal. Keep your muscles going strong. It is nice having a real bed and bathroom though.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman I'm 58 now and miles are less but I love it. I dream of that comfy bed at times when lying on a blow up mat, promised myself more luxuries when I retire
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 I am retired now and I am 64.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Keep backpacking as long as you can. One day you won't be able to. ☹
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman That day is coming but I'll plod on until it's a waste of effort, the buzz at the end of a hike is worth the pain.
I wish you many happy trips in your RV, those comfy sleeps and proper meals under the stars 🤩
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 We definitely enjoy it. We love seeing the country too. How far do you stray from home? Do you go to different places every time?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman I sometimes get the train and travel a couple of hours away but mostly stay where I know the paths because I'm a lazy planner. I have a gps that I can upload routes to but prefer to use old fashioned map and compass, like my dad taught me.
How far do you usually travel? Have you ever toured abroad?
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a lazy planner. We live in Florida. So far the furthest away we have been is Cheyenne Wyoming. Which is 2000 miles away. We took two months and stopped in Wichita Kansas, Oklahoma City and Memphis Tennessee before heading for home.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 I have been to Mexico, the Bahamas and Canada when I was a little kid.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman Sounds amazing, great memories!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Yes they are. What is the furthest you have been away from home and how far have you hiked backpacking?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman The furthest I've been from home is Cyprus but not camping or hiking, The furthest I've travelled to hike and camp is the Scottish Highlands, hiked 107 miles in six days when i was in my 30s.
Camping is legal in Scotland so it's easy there and more relaxing.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 How cool! 🙂🙂🙂 What was your favorite story from that trip?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@Musicman Lots of memories but I had to take a detour because of cattle and made a point of complaining to the farmer, who rang his brother who owned a farm 15 miles away and arranged for me to stay in a log cabin on his land with a glass roof to look at the stars, as an apology.
It's always worth complaining if you know you're right 😎
Musicman · 61-69, M
@RodneyTrotter1 Good deal! How did you like the glass roof?
