Try this one on for size. Most western nations outside America get four weeks or more of annual leave. And often a nine day fortnight or a rostered day off once a month as well. All on full pay..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman America, the greatest country in the world, is quite stingy with things like "vacation".

I mean yeah people can typically take time off but not paid.

@HoeBag And they wonder why some employees heart isnt in the job..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Well I mean at least here in America, there isn't much reason to be.

You could be replaced in a heart beat, even at "Good" jobs it could take up to 20 years service before you get four weeks paid vacation, benefits and insurance are cr4p, pay isn't usually all that great... BTW the "years service vs weeks paid vaca vary greatly, no set laws for that.

Even if someone DOES have all that, there is constant worry about lay-offs or benefit and pay cuts.

Any job I have had, it was a situation where I figured, "If I am working today, that means I have a job today".

With the health insurance, yeah one can get it through the company but it is usually expensive and not very good. At a low paying job, it could eat up a considerable portion of your paycheck. I do not know how much because I haven't got health insurance through a job since 2006.

OH and a lot of places avoid hiring full time so they can avoid having to even offer health benefits.

When it comes to things like profit sharing (where available) or other "benefits", they base base it on 20 hours a week even though they often expect P/T to work 25 to 35 hours per week.

TLDR - USA employers like to f*ck their employees every way possible.

@HoeBag Health insurance through a job is unheard of here. On the other hand, we have universal cover. As a matter of fact I am typing from the bed of a public hospital. No big deal. Jusy a need for IV antibiotics before a minor surgery for something else. Its all good But everything is covered.. Including the wifi..😷
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@whowasthatmaskedman What was the surgery for?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@HoeBag I just knew you were going to ask that,, Its just a bone fusion. But the point is i need to be infection free before they operate. So a few days on IV antibiotics, with Xrays MRI, patholgoy podiatry and anything else they can think of will cost me zero..😷
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@whowasthatmaskedman sounds like they are doing everything they can to make it a success.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@HoeBag Yes. But its complicated. The actual bone fusion was to be done "private" in another provate hospital under health insurance we also keep. So I have 2 levels of cover. But the Public hospital operation costs me nothing. The private hospital is paid part from our universal cover, part private cover and a small gap..The advantage of private is no waiting and better food..😷
