Happy Eid to those celebrating!!

This is the first Eid in Algeria in my entire life during which Algeria will be not be celebrating with Saudi Arabia at the same time. It will be on Monday which gives me more time to message people to not visit me.

I have really bad respiratory infection. Like incredibly bad. It got worse the past two days after being fairly manageable . And I certainly don't want to give it to other people. I also don't want to be wearing my mask at home. All day I am breathing my own germs at work wearing full protective equipment and making it worse. I want to at least have some time to recover.

Happy Eid to everyone

Why is Algeria and Saudi Arabia not celebrating it at the same time?
@sstronaut They sighted a crescent moon 🌙 North African countries didn't. Egypt is celebrating on Monday too like Algeria.
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether So how far apart do they celebrate then? And who goes first?

Not knowing what day the moon will show up in certain areas must make planning a bit more difficult
@sstronaut 24 hours. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, France, Russia and more will celebrate tomorrow. Others will fast for one more day.

True but I have no idea what happens next but I think in that case it's considered to be not visible. They check it at a certain time after sunset, it's possible that the rest of the night does not count.
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether For a large and wide country, let's say Russia, what happens if it shows in one area of the country but not the others?

Do they still do it all at the same time, or does it get split up by regions?

PS: My apologies if these questions are stupid or an annoyance, please don't feel as if you or anyone else have to answer them, just random curiosity of how groups get on the same page type of thing.
@sstronaut In fact I have the same umm what do you call it I can't find the correct English word in my head. Inquiries? Let's just say questions I am wondering about those questions as well I can ask my mom later or ChatGPT. I really don't know the answers but those are definitely valid questions.

Actually just 200+ km away from me Palestine and Israel are celebrating it tomorrow so I don't know if North African countries made a mistake or not but it's too late now.

I don't celebrate Eid I only participate in it with family who are all believers. Also sweets are a plus 😋

Ask anything you want it's fun learning stuff about other cultures. SW taught me a lot I owe it.
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I'm sure that most people's official answer is that they just listen to the higher ups whom tell them when the correct day is.

My guess is that it mostly goes by country, but a super large/wide country like Russia might split it, but also might not.

Just googling a bit, it sounds like Saudi Arabia makes claims of Moon sighting that scientists and astronomers claim are impossible... which is interesting 🤔

@sstronaut You are correct

Yea lol I'm not surprised, religion and science don't mix.

@sstronaut Listen. I am busy hating on France and don't have the time to catch up with the drama between Saudi and North Africans that made them decide to do Eid on Monday. I can only hate on one country at a time.
@Miram I didn't realize there was any hate here.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether has been doing an outstanding job of answering all questions, to free you to continue your own goals
@sstronaut She pays for my services 😅
