Weirdest thing you’ve ever seen while on Holiday?

Many years ago while traveling in the South, the ex and I drove off the beaten path into the hills. While most of the people we met were friendly, we were surprised to find some who didn't seem to realize that the war between the states ended long ago. We got called Yankees (spoken as if it's a dirty word), and some folks threatened to harm us. On a couple of occasions, I felt lucky to get away alive.
