Yeah, these things can happen due to bad habits. My older sister was a high soprano before she smoked. From that habit, she lost many notes in her high register. To this day, she doesn't sing these days.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that you will retain those notes again. However, you can train your current voice to strengthen it one step at a time. You may not be able to recover your high notes like before but your voice will most likely to be improved. If you truly want to sing again, adapt to your current voice type, take it slow, and don't hurt yourself. Believe in yourself and don't let anything stop you.

As a teenager (2008), I always wanted to be a bass. So, my bad habit was that I press down on my lyranxs to sound like one. This caused some pain in my lower register. That was dumb on my part. I was actually an undeveloped tenor. At first, I hated my voice then I eventually grew to accept it.

I will say that nothing is impossible for anyone. You can do anything that you put your mind into it. Best of luck to you and God bless.

Oh, that must be sad. Joni Mitchell's voice changed radically due to smoking. Such a loss.
