I'm watching this really interesting show

They think they found a Pyramid and civilization of people in Indonesia 24,000years ago before the ice age

Very Interesting, although it looks as if the age information was spoilt by the journalists not understanding the archaeologists' report they summarised. I wonder what age the formal papers actually state.

Historians generally use what is now called the "Common Era" (years CE and BCE, replacing AD and BC) but they are talking of relatively recent people and events, back merely a few millennia.

Archaeologists, palaeontologists and geologists going back far further normally use dates based on "BP" - Before Present - a year set in the early-1950s. I forget the actual year but that is to correct isotopic dating for the results of the huge spate of Cold War nuclear weapons tests in the 1950s-60s. They also abbreviate it to nka or nMa, respectively n thousand or n million, years BP.

If they say "before [such-and-such] event" it's probably to give some sort of relative context, especially to help non-specialists. 24ka would still have been within the last cold phase, when much of the Northern Hemisphere lands were still covered in ice bordered by tundra, down to around 50ºN; with consequent sea-levels far below present.

24000 years BP yes; and relics dated to about 40 000 BP (either Human or Neanderthal) have been found in Southern Europe; but which "ice age" did the show mean?

An ice-age is a sequence of climatic oscillations. The last glacial maximum of the present ice age lasted around 100 000 years and is considered having "ended" about 11 000 years ago - the climate and sea-levels becoming fairly stable at what has been familiar to us for many centuries.

So if 24ka is within the LGM (so-called "last ice-age"), 24k years before the chilly times would be nearer 140ka; not 24ka. Hence my puzzlement.

I don't know what the glacial maximum effects would have been on that SE Asian archipelago, at <10º South latitude, apart from lower sea-levels; but I would think it would have enjoyed quite an equable, temperate climate well suited to a society wanting to build pyramids!

Yeah those type of shows are interesting. I also heard that Atlantis might be in Africa. I went to Morocco and their mountain was called Atlas. Which is a Greek god then the eye of the Sahara has similarities to Atlantis. There's also ancient hinting it was in north Africa west to Egypt
