Why does it seem like some people choose to miss the point for the sake of arguing?

I remembered a conversation I once had. I had reposted a statement about a pay cap for traveling nurses and how it’s ironic since we don’t pay cap football players who make millions.

The reason I reposted that is because I think it’s ridiculous to pay cap anyone.

But all I got were comments about how “fOoTbAlL pLaYeRs EaRn ThEiR mOnEy”

And nurses don’t?

I’m fine with a football player getting rich.

My issue is deciding that the profits a nurse can make from their skills and labor should be limited.

Nurses have a very valuable job and I don’t think it’s wrong to compensate them more for their efforts. I could never be a nurse, so I respect that they are willing to deal with everyone’s BS to save/enrich lives.

Yes a lot of jobs are under appreciated, including 911 call centers and any job where they have to clean and sanitize after others.

NFL (football 🏈) players do have a salary cap limit as a team, not as individuals.

I'm assuming the traveling Nurse Cap is for so they don't get paid more than whomever they seem to be local everyday equivalent, so that the traveling Nurses aren't being paid more or that much more than that full time nurses. Though that's just an assumption on my part, and profit is surely another reason as well... but I assume Nurses have unions (I could be totally wrong about that) and I would think the Unions would negotiate whatever allowed and not let outsiders like traveling Nurses get paid too much more than the regular nurses. Though, I'm making a lot of assumptions which could be wrong.
My roommate is a nurse. The reasoning behind this pay cap, which she doesn't support, was hospitals losing staff when they needed it most. The hospital she works at had 200 open nursing positions at one point. People were leaving in decent numbers to do travel nursing because of the higher pay. This left hospitals short staffed with no option but to bring in crazy expensive travel nurses. These nurses still needed training on company systems and could leave whenever they felt like it, leaving hopsitals to start over with someone new.
Now there's a lot of whining because these contracts are being canceled by the hospitals and the nurses aren't making the obscene money they've become accustomed to.

Some professions get kicked, no matter what happens..

Nursing is one of those fields…they get overworked during Covid-19…so they become traveling nurses..
With that move, they become contractors and don’t get benefits or days off..

Yes, the money is attractive while being a traveling nurse. The time working as a traveling nurse should be treated as a business..travel expenses etc.
Either way , it’s a difficult career.

Some people are just obtuse.

That kind of thing happens too much. No matter what subject you bring up.

Too many people are only concerned with "winning the argument" and don't give a fuck about truth. They'll pretend to not see your point, argue against strawmen, et cetera.
