Silly mistakes you've made, DIY etc?

In my teens I wanted to reduce the ground clearance of my little, very old car. I visualized a way to do it that involved turning the rear axle upside down. With much labor and some fabricated parts I actually managed to do it: Happily fired up the engine and discovered I now had 4 reverse gears and only one very low forward.
