Daytime navigation without technology or compass

If you have an analog watch (with hands as opposed to digital):

Turn your watch so that the hour hand is pointing in the same direction as the location of the sun, then find the line halfway between the hour hand and the 12.

In the northern hemisphere, that line points south.

In the southern hemisphere, that line points north.
