Photography and walking, they are tied.
Rarebreed · 51-55, M
Yes they are. There is so much to see when we just slow down@PixieParty:

You know it!

I found the old firehouse building for the town I work in today on my walk in. Blew me away, because I didn't know there *was* an old firehouse.

Do you photograph urban life or natural?
PixieParty · 41-45, F
Both. I do much better with natural, but I'm exploring urban more lately, and dabbling in portraiture, but that is very tricky for me.
PixieParty · 41-45, F
For example, I never thought a rusted iron spiral fire escape would just captivate me, but it did.

Urban has a certain romance to it. I live in nature but appreciate design too. @PixieParty:

I totally get that. ...A rod iron rail with the right awning over it, and an old sign. @PixieParty:

Beautifully put. I live in nature as well, so lately my walks to work (I get a ride part way, but I enjoy the walk for the other mile), I have noticed the intricacies of "town life."

Let me guess? You like black and white? And shadows and light? @PixieParty:
PixieParty · 41-45, F
Yes, and certain color compositions too. I just love anything that catches my eye. I don't like to spend hours editing, though, so I have learned to take photos more to my tastes straight from the camera, if I can. I might tweek it a little after, but not much. My dad taught me on his old Canon 35mm and there is very little room for error there.
Rarebreed · 51-55, M
@PixieParty: I would double heart that if I could!!!! I learned on the old 35mm too. I used to take rolls of film on one subject recording changes in aperature, shutter, etc, then compare when I got the finished product back from the lab.
PixieParty · 41-45, F
And I have to note, I'm not a Canon or a Nikon snob, I have used both and they both have their merits.
PixieParty · 41-45, F
@Rarebreed: YOU TOO?!! OH man I thought I was the only one!! I may still have my old notes!
Rarebreed · 51-55, M
Haha...mine are long gone in a move ( too bad). Funny...I owned both a canon and Nikon!!! @PixieParty:
PixieParty · 41-45, F
I still own both a Canon and a Nikon. The Nikon is a DSLR D3200, but the lens needs replaced (I stupid bought the kit lens and I'm just not thrilled with it, but it works, for now). My Canon has about four lens (the film Canon) and I have also borrowed my dad's new Canon DSLR as well to play with. He's much better with that one than I am but he has more practice with the lenses he has. I'm drooling over some new lenses, honestly.

I remember when eos just came out, there was a 600mm lens I NEEDED to have...at the tune of $7000. I never got it. Actually, I opted for a 2x twleconverter and learned how to adjust with stops of light and managed to get the same results for only about $600 I have a canon EOS20 DSLR when they first switched to digital. I've never replaced it. It works great. @PixieParty:
PixieParty · 41-45, F
@Rarebreed: Sweet but holy cow on the lens price!!! I need a 200mm and a nifty fifty (oops, broke my last) and those just aren't cheap. Well, the 50 is sorta. I burned up the shutter motor in my Nikon D40x body about two years ago. I miss that camera. I name them all. That was Little Ozzy and the one I have now is Rory.
Rarebreed · 51-55, M
I've never thought to name my cameras lol I'll call them Snaggletooth and Godzilla. I still have my old Eos 35mm around but I sold the Nikon f600 a long while back, even though it was the better of the two cameras.

What are you doing for the weekend? Fireworks going on near your place? I'm actually in Canada so our holiday is tomorrow. Its Canada's 150th, so the fireworks will be longer most likely
