My little Reformed Army

I'm gonna get this over with, because a friend here is inquisitive, i don't know how i can make this stuff sound interesting though, it's an enigma to me even that i'm as interested as i am in it all.

Ever since reading Jonathan Edwards many years ago, names in this field have had a magical quality for me, it doesn't make sense, i know, but still the mind is capable of more screwy things, you gotta admit.

The term Reformed, is a position within the Protestant camp of Christianity.

What i need it for basically is to feel i have at least a theological upper hand from my environment, they can have it all to do with living your life, with developing human friendships and so on, but i'm a loner, and only care about books no matter what the subject. It is my plan to at least keep plugging away at these resources and so much more to counter the cloying annoying sappy weak wristed forms of this belief from turning me into an axe wielding maniac.

My little army of them are as follows:

Joel Beeke is front and center for his robust 4 volume work which he co-authored with Paul Smalley, if you're interested in Reformed theology, and need to wet your toes with something extra chunky, and not too bogged down by academic linguistics, this is the best place to begin your wild and wacky journey.

The Puritans are Reformed guys who put the practical in theology, touching every facet of our lives. The main guys for me are:

William Perkins
Richard Sibbes
Thomas Goodwin
John Owen
Thomas Watson
John Flavel

Now let us mention the theological classics:

Bullinger's Decades
Calvin's Institutes
Turretin's Institutes of Elenctic Theology
Mastricht's Theoretical-Practical Theology
Brakel's The Christian's Reasonable Service
Charles Hodge's Systematic Theology
R.L. Dabney's Systematic Theology
Herman Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics
Louis Berkhof's Systematic Theology

And some modern theologies by:

John Frame
Millard J. Erickson
Michael F. Bird
Robert Letham

a special studies gem -- Richard A. Muller's Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmatics in 4 sumptuous volumes none of the footnotes work on me kindle though.

Supplemental

The Early Church Fathers, namely

Justin Martyr
Tertullian
Clement of Alexandria
Origen
Augustine
John Chrysostom
Athanasius

Kierkegaard also is a mighty source to be in this heady brew.

Not much can be gleaned from this, and it's because it's just doctrine, it's contra humanity. Hope that's ok, and now back to reading and napping, have a nice weekend everyone.
