Any HAM Radio or GMRS Radio Hobbiest Here?

Just a note I'm in South Africa and I use the equivalent of USA's GMRS frequencies for which we do not need a licence over here. Just putting it out there as this always seems to be a contentious issue.

Anywhooo... So today I did a range test using two Boafeng radios. One being a UV-5R and the other being a BF-777s.

The UV-5R was on Low Power (about 2 watts) to match the output power of the BF-777s.

I was able to get a range of 2,7km's (no we don't do Miles in SA lol).

This is in a densely populated area with lots of housing and other structures and the quality was very clear so I guess I could have gone further, but I needed to make my way back home.

Some day I will try a further distance, but this was impressive to me.

Oh and this was strictly using stock antennas and no repeaters (we don't have repeaters for GMRS frequency users).
