Do people buy amateur art?

I'm thinking of trying out abstract art to sell, and experiment with textures and techniques from youtube. But do people look for credentials of an artist before buying? Is it a thing?

If its a reasonable price at an art festival or fleamarket then no. No one cares but if you are trying to collect a pretty decent amout per piece then yes it matters and won't sell much. If your goal is to make money dont rely so much on your aesthetic but balance that with pop culture references, great color schemes to go with various settings and stuff like that.
