Do people buy amateur art?

I'm thinking of trying out abstract art to sell, and experiment with textures and techniques from youtube. But do people look for credentials of an artist before buying? Is it a thing?

Yeah, people buy it. But usually you gotta have some sort of following or live in an area with a bunch of rich yt people
