Why do humans crave drugs?

It seems that people are hardwired to enjoy all sorts of drugs (alcohol, weed, video games, ...). I find that interesting since it looks like a flaw in our brain that we are trying to fix by escaping our thought, or our true personality. What do you think is the main reason we escape into the arms of brain altering mechanisms.

Drugs are low requirement substitutes for the built in amino acid endorphins the brain secretes when real trials and success ore experienced. The root reasons for each person varies.

Some are figuratively avoiding their true experiences while others are trying to synthesize experiences they otherwise do not have the wherewithal to actually experience.
