God has said He does not want us worshiping nature, or the sun or moon.

God said not to worship the moon, the stars or the Sun, is because they are not gods. They are only things in nature and they cannot help us nor do anything for us. We know they are not gods to be worshiped, because man has been to the Moon and he has seen that it is not a god; only a barren planet, nothing built on it, just dirt, certain minerals, and rocks/mountains. It cannot see, hear, nor speak, nor have any understanding. It is God who created them, so He is to be worshiped only. God wants us to trust in Him for knowledge and wisdom.

James 1:5 says If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all, without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

What does the Bible say about the Sun and the stars?

And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven. Deuteronomy 17:3

Are all translations of the Bible across time and cultures/languages the same ?
@revenant
As a general rule, yes. The majority of Bibles say the same thing, the differences come in by translations and paraphrases. The Old Testament original was hebrew. New Testament in Arabic and Greek but they basically all say the same thing.
revenant · F
@LadyGrace If the translations were sometimes as bad then as they sometimes are today then major mistakes would have been made. Also you would have to trust the translators which might be an error on itself.
@revenant The biblical writers flatly denied teaching mythology. For example, Peter said, “We didn’t follow cleverly devised tales when we told you about the power and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His Majesty” (2 Pet. 1:16). In fact, the Apostle Paul urged Timothy to teach his congregation to disregard mythology (1 Tim. 1:4). He warned that a time was coming when people would “turn away their ears from the truth and turn aside to mythology” (2 Tim. 4:4). The events recorded in the Scripture, are firmly rooted in history.

In addition, the most stupendous miracle recorded in the Bible, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, has been authenticated by numerous scholarly studies including the late great Dr. Simon Greenleaf. Dr. Greenleaf was the Royal Professor of Legal Evidences at Harvard University. He was goaded by his students into looking at the evidences for the resurrection. After a thorough examination he came back and said, “There is not a single unbiased juror in the world who would ever look at the evidence and deny it. Dr. Simon Greenleaf became a Christian. The Bible is not mythology and was never meant to be read as such.

God left us his word to future generations so that we would not have to guess how to have salvation. The Bible is the most wonderful book in the world. It not only tells us the past history but it also tells us what's going to happen in the future and no other book can do that with 100% accuracy. All of God's prophecies, to date, have all come to pass. And all of his future prophecies shall do the same. It is a 100% reliable work of the Holy Spirit. Not man, and that's why we can rely on it. It is 100% trustworthy.

I guess that's why the Smithsonian Department of Anthropology said this about the Bible (referring to history):

"Much of the Bible, in particular the historical books of the old testament, are as accurate historical documents as any that we have and are, in fact, more accurate than many of the Egyptian, Mesopotamian, or Greek histories. These Biblical records are used, as are other ancient documents in archeological work. For the most part, historical events described, took place, and the peoples cited, really existed."

@LadyGrace ah well..it is not as though politics would never enter the game..or would it..
@revenant Politics has nothing to do with salvation.
@revenant Did you know that there are 100 Bible verses against going to psychics/mediums and sorcerer's, dealing in witchcraft? Leviticus 19:31 says "Do not turn to mediums or sorcerers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them. I am the Lord your God." He also said, "Any who do will not see the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19 -21. Those are Abominations before the Lord. Deuteronomy 18:10-13.

@revenant I think if they had to glorify Jesus Christ then they would have said, "First leg he put in Israel, with 2nd leg, he crossed Atlantic and on the 3rd, he crossed the Pacific reaching Israel Again. All the Kings lay flat on his feet for they knew that he was the king of the World"

Logic says the incidence and events were true.
@revenant

The reason why, is because that is worshiping false gods, that will not get anyone to heaven.
revenant · F
@LadyGrace who are those false gods then ?
@revenant God made it simple. He said don't worship anything other than Himself, because He is our Creator. After all the suffering and agony He went through on the cross to save us from the consequences and condemnation that sin placed on us, He is the only one worthy enough to receive our praise, otherwise we would have all went to hell, because just being good, He said, will not get us to heaven. We still have sin in us, that we have to deal with and that needs forgiven by him so we can be received into heaven without dragging our sins in with us. The gods he talks about not to worship, he said are things that man has made himself, like golden statues and other gods that are man-made. Some people worship snakes and that would be considered worshiping an idol or false god, as well.

@LadyGrace one has to ask questions we are not supposed to ask. If god is jealous of other gods, there must be other gods and who are they ?
@revenant

Jesus said in Revelation 22:13 - " I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."
@revenant

I Think Jesus wants us to ask these questions and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why he gave us the Bible because he said he would not have us be guessing, but he wrote it so we would know. He knew we would have questions and a smart person will ask questions.

The Bible says there are many gods in the universe and principalities and Powers but for us to be aware of them because they are not the real God. They are demons. They cannot get us to heaven. God warns us about that in His Word.

revenant · F
@LadyGrace he did not write it...
@revenant You sure? It matters not only what we believe, but why. The bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Greek word being "theopneustos", meaning "God-breathed", inspired by God, due to the inspiration of God. God did not entrust His words to just any men, but to "holy men of old", to write down under the direction and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Man has tried to destroy His Word, burn it, deny it, mock it, ridicule it, yet it has survived all the way down through the ages, which in itself is a miracle, because while some papers may have been destroyed, God and His Word shall never pass away. So while we could dispute these things, let us not miss the main focus, which is how to get to heaven, because if we miss that important truth, we've missed everything. "For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, yet loses his own soul?" Mark 8:36

The bible is as up to date as tomorrow's newspaper. No other book of any kind, can tell our future with precise 100% accuracy, like the bible does. It was not coincidental.

Unlike mythology, the Bible contains an astounding number of fulfilled prophecies. Myths do not bother with prophecy, but fully one third of the Bible is prophecy. The Bible contains over 1,800 predictions concerning more than 700 separate subjects found in over 8,300 verses. The Old Testament contains more than 300 prophecies concerning Jesus Christ alone, many with amazing specificity. Numerous prophecies have already been fulfilled, and they have come to pass precisely as foretold. The mathematical odds of someone making this number of predictions and having every one of them come to pass are light-years beyond the realm of human possibility. These miraculous prophecies could only be accomplished with the supernatural guidance of Him who sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10).

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach "any other gospel" unto you, than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8

Proverbs 30:5-6, "Every Word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar."

Jesus sure went through a torturous death for nothing then, if the Bible is not real. However, Jesus is incapable of error. He is sinless. He said His words shall never pass away.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

@LadyGrace I can write my own bible and claim that I was inspired by the Holy Spirit.
@revenant No you can't really because no one can receive the Holy Spirit unless they accept Jesus as their Savior. And God said in his Word if you attribute any of his works unto the devil, that is blasphemy. And if it's blasphemy to attribute his works to Satan, it must be blasphemy to attribute God's own works to anyone else.

@LadyGrace eheheheh then they should have the MAAAAARRRK or seal whatever ☺️

@revenant Say, aren't many of your questions not linked to the Universal Christ by Richard Rohr?
@val70 What do you mean? Christ is universal. He created the universe, the Bible says so.

@val70 I have never heard of this guy.

@val70 I am flattered he is reading me lol ?🙂
@revenant me neither and he certainly couldn't take the place of Christ. I don't count on what man says. He's not smarter nor wiser than God.
