I Want to Be Healthy

January 18th. First day at the gym. I am seriously considering just staying fat!

Actually, I'm not that fat. I'm a little overweight and not in the best of shape, true. But I'm not fat. But I would certainly like to look and feel better than I do. I'm not getting any younger. I'm 47 years old and would like to feel as energetic as I did when I was in my 20s. Yeah, that's going to happen!

So I joined a gym and I've been going there fairly often to swim. They have an amazing heated pool. My girlfriend and I love it. But that's all we do. We swim. So today I went alone to hit the machines and actually sweat. Well, it freaking hurt! My legs were like rubber when I was done. And I didn't even do all that much.

I found this machine, I have no idea what the hell the thing is called. It's like some crazy cross between a Stairmaster and treadmill. I set the thing for an uphill incline and started walking. I made a mile with an average of 7 MPH. I have no idea if that is good or bad. All I know is that when I was done I could barely stand. And that was when I decided it would be easier to just let myself go to pot.

But on further contemplation, and after a nice long evening to relax, I've come to my senses. I will go back. I do want to get into shape. I do want to be healthy. So yes, I'll go back. Wish my luck. I'm going to need it!

Yes....go back!! Do the weights and the cardio...your body will thank you for it, albeit the swimming is an awesome workout!

Encouragement is always welcome. Thank you so much. I will be going back.

Is there someone at your gym that can show you the proper way to use the machines? It would be helpful to you. Also you want to always warm up good before using any machines. And because your just getting started, you don't want to strain/over exert yourself while using the machines. You'll get way too sore and never want to go back! haha! Take it slow!
I'm 62 and doing it. Once you start feeling better and see your body changing. you'll be more excited about working out! You can do this!

The machine I was on is pretty self-explanatory. Step on, start walking, stop when you're tired. That's about all there is to it. As for the weight machines, I pretty much know how to use them already but won't be going anywhere near them for a while anyway. My endurance is so low right now that there is just no point. I'll stick to the cardio type stuff for now. Once I develop some stick-to-it, then I'll head on over to the real machines. At that point, yes, I'll look for some help and guidance.

Sounds like a sensible plan Bryan. Your going to feel so much better in no time. Best of luck!

That's awesome just remember to drink lots and lots of water so you don't get lactic acid buildup that'll save you from being too stiff the next day! 👍

Thanks for the advice. I know nothing about this and will be learning as I go. But I won't give up.
