Opinions on health insurance?

Is it actually worth having? Is it a scam? I already have my feelings on it but I’d like to see other people’s feelings about it.

I was with my insurance company for around 25 years. The ONLY time I used it was when I got a wisdom tooth pulled, the dentist prescribed some pain stuff, and it got it for like 5 bucks. Used it twice and threw it away.
A couple of years ago I got a note and they dropped me. You would think the person who doesn't use it would be who they want.
So I spent over $100,000 for nothing but a safety net.
I tore my meniscus about four months ago and, like I've always down when I'm injured, I went with self-healing. I truly believe in mind over body and supplements. And it worked. It hurt. But it worked. So my plan is to stay healthy until I can get Medicare. We'll see how it goes. But is it scam? Hard to say. If you're healthy it's a scam. When you try and use it and find out you're not covered, or barely covered for a certain ailment, it's a scam. If you're in real need of real treatment then it can be essential.

especially in America it is worth it, as expensive as it is, going to a pcp/gp is nearly impossible without it and hospital visits are ungodly expensive

had a good friend of mine "get in an argument with a circular saw", 15 years later his wallet is still feeling the affects of a $40k Life Flight, 2 weeks inpatient and 3 surgeries, without health insurance

I on the other hand, with insurance, had a 2.5 month stay, and walked out owing $2,100.

It's definitely a scam but has become a necessary evil. Also depends on the country you are in.
Necessarily evil. I have enough insurance to tell me why I'm sick, but not enough to cure me. Unless, I'm on death's door, then I can face financial ruin.

Its a scam worth having if you are sickly or prone to accidents. Comes in handy a lot of the time
