I Have Been In a Mental Hospital

Most of my life I had been pretty cruisy. Not too worried about anything.
Then, about 7 years ago I experienced my first ever bout of depression. REAL depression. A place so dark I could see no way out. No hope. Nothing.
This was new for me, and utterly terrifying.
One afternoon I went for a drive. I sat and looked at the view for a couple of hours.
When I got home I found police at my home. A family member had been worried about me.
To cut a long story short, I soon found myself sectioned under this country's mental health act. Locked up against my will, with very few rights - certainly not the right of freedom. I truly thought I would never get out. It was the most terrifying few days of my life.

The nearest I ever came to clinical depression was when I lost my husband. I had three small children to bring up and can honestly say, without them to live and care for, things may have panned out very differently for me.
I'm so sorry to hear how far you plummeted into the depths of despair but so glad you overcame it. That takes real strength of character 🕊️

@Lacemaker You sound very strong yourself. It's great that you had your children at that awful time. I can understand how much it helps to have others that you need to support, but also their love. Continue to look after you, and make time for yourself when you can.

@snofan Thank you. My mother and brother have been wonderful too. But yes, my kids were my saving grace, and still are....two have left home now so I only have 'the baby' left 😄
