Why does overdosing make me feel nauseous?

I took about 2000 mg of medicine, instead of 210 mg and I feel like I'm going to throw up.

Daft thing to do, wasn't it? As Kitty indicates, vomiting is the body's first line of defence against something swallowed but potentially harmful.
