What happens when you don't treat a Lisfranc injury?

I sustained a severe Lisfranc injury to my first metatarsal bone in my left foot back in October. I couldn't put weight on it without feeling extreme pain for weeks. I was put in a splint before I went to the joint center at St. Lukes where they told me I was 100% definitely going to need surgery in order for it to heal correctly. They wanted to put screws in my feet to bring the joint that had shifted away from my foot back into place, but my mom said no because she thought the risks of having screws in my feet weren't worth the benefits of my injury healing to a medical standard. They strongly insisted that I get the surgery but my mom continued to say no, so they instead put me in a hard cast that I was supposed to keep on for 6 weeks; I cut it off after a week. I limped for almost two months and still felt slight pain once I was able to walk right again. I have been walking fine for months now but have felt moderate to severe pain where the injury was sustained at least once a day every day. I'm a waitress and am on my feet a lot and in the past couple days the pain in my foot has been increasing rapidly. What happens to this kind of injury when it goes untreated?

What happened? I am recovering from an even more severe Lisfranc injury and I can't imagine not treating it. Then again, recovering from surgery has been a nightmare and a half so far...
You should go to the doctor.

If you displaced it and went on without allowing the bones to heal properly, there's chance the problem will occur again, or it will mend improperly.

I displaced both of my ankles a while back, and still find them to be a problem.
